Start with the way you want your aircraft to look
A successful paint scheme starts with clear references: colors you like, a preferred stripe style, and the areas you want to emphasize. Share side views and any ideas for the wings, tail, cowlings and fairings. We can use those references to discuss a coordinated design and the refinishing needed to create it.
Color, contrast and layout
Consider the relationship between the base color, accent stripes and registration lettering. A restrained layout and a detailed multicolor scheme involve different amounts of preparation, masking and application. Metallic finishes and other special color requests should be reviewed as part of the paint system and quoted scope.
N-number and registration changes
If you are changing registration lettering, provide the current and proposed registration, photographs, and the desired color and placement. Removing existing markings may require refinishing the underlying area. Lettering dimensions, visibility and the proposed layout need review for the aircraft before installation.
Design approval before paint
Agree on the layout and scope before the work begins. A reference photograph communicates an idea but does not establish permission to reproduce a proprietary design. Cirrus owners should also review the aircraft-specific considerations on our Cirrus painting page when planning color placement or changes to a factory scheme.
